The HKIE is the qualification certification body for Hong Kong engineers. In 1982, the Corporate Members of the HKIE are recognised by the Hong Kong Government for civil service, and one of the entry thresholds to become a Corporate Member is to obtain an accredited recognised degree or the equivalent in an acceptable engineering discipline.
The BEng (Hons) Degree in Civil Engineering, and the BEng (Hons) Degree in Construction Engineering and Management programmes offered by the Department have been granted Full Accreditation by the HKIE on 5 June 2023. The curricula in the programmes are closely aligned with market demand. Graduates of these programmes are eligible to join the Formal Training Scheme “A” operated by HKIE and can obtain the qualification of Registered Professional Engineers in the shortest possible time.
